How to Batch Change and Increment Photo Dates on Mac?

Editing the date of one photo is easy, but manually correcting the dates of hundreds of images can quickly become time-consuming.

With MetaImage, you can batch edit photo dates on Mac and automatically distribute or increment dates and times across a selection of files.

This is particularly useful for scanned photos, imported image collections, or any set of images whose dates need to be reconstructed or corrected.

Step 1: Import Your Photos into MetaImage

Open MetaImage and import the images you want to modify.

You can select individual files or import the contents of a folder.

Once your photos are loaded, select the files whose dates you want to update.

To select all imported files, press Command-A (⌘A).

Step 2: Select the Date Metadata to Edit

Choose the date or time field you want to modify and start editing it as you normally would in MetaImage.

Depending on your workflow, you may want to modify a photo's capture date or another date-related metadata field.

Step 3: Open the Quick Actions

In the editing panel, click the lightning bolt button to open MetaImage's Quick Actions.

A list of available actions will appear.

Step 4: Distribute or Increment the Dates

MetaImage will display the options for distributing dates and times across the selected photos.

Configure the date and time distribution according to your needs, then confirm the operation.

MetaImage will calculate and apply the new values across the selected files.

Don't forget to save your changes when you're finished.

Why Increment Dates Across Multiple Photos?

One particularly useful example is a collection of scanned old photographs.

Suppose you have 100 scanned photos from the same event. Because they were scanned on the same day, their current file dates may tell you when they were digitized rather than when the original photographs were taken.

If you know the approximate chronological order of the photos, you can assign dates and progressively distribute or increment the time across the sequence.

This gives each image a distinct chronological value without requiring you to manually enter a different date and time for every photo.
